VOX has added two new models to its amPlug range of palm-sized, battery powered, headphone guitar amplifiers: the amPlug Lead and amPlug Bass.
Users can plug either model directly into their guitar (via its built-in 1/4" plug) and play anywhere, anytime. Additionally, an AUX input jack allows the user to jam along with any MP3 player.
According to Vox, the amPlug “Lead” is based on a U.S.-made high-gain boutique amp that has been further modified specifically for lead guitar. It also contains a digital delay effect for added richness.
Using proprietary analog modeling technology, the amPlug range aims at reproducing the complex and warm distortion distinctive of vacuum tubes, as well as the powerful high gain produced by a large amp stack, all in spite of compact dimensions (3.39" × 3.15" × 1.22") and weight (1.41oz., not including batteries).
These models offer up to 20 hours of battery life from two AAA batteries. Visually, amPlug looks like a miniature VOX amplifier, complete with a simulation of the classic VOX diamond grill cloth.
MSRP for either the amPlug Lead or Bass model is $49.99.
