This is a sampler 24 tracks released in 1994.
It has resonant filters, but no effect.
It offers a sample loop by loop + release. The filters are multimode and super powerful: it's really the highlight of the machine.
The basic sampler features 2 MB expandable to 32. You can also add a video option.
In addition to the format Roland S700, it reads the format sampler Akai S1000 and Roland S50.
The architecture is quite demanding but very readable: one for sound and sample loop, a part that contains up to 4 stereo sample to handle, envelopes / lfo and filters.
A patch that determines the distribution of the partial on the keyboard (1 per note) and a performance that manages patches / midi channels (can overlap).
UTILIZATION
The system is well thought out. The menus are clear and precise. However, it is not easy to tame the machine.
The screen is big enough and graph: so I could do without the video option for over 10 years while using advanced features.
The CD format is really a special brake because it is not easy to find sound libraries made for the sampler.
SOUNDS
While there is great!! The sampler sounds great and is very pro. I understand why it has been widely used in film.
The filters are truly a marvel.
The only downside comes from the only limit to the final loop a bit.
OVERALL OPINION
I bought this sampler in 94 to replace my Honhai HS5 (clone CASIO FZ1) and there was the day and night. I have always been and I like it. For my limited use it is perfect.
The definite plus is the sound and ease of use.
Less is probably its limitations: the loops, the specific format (no conversion tool that works really sample available) and its file system (not necessarily easy to find the right sound).
If I had to change my sampler today, I would take probably a more recent sample, but I remain convinced that at the time was the best choice and I do not regret it.
Something is sure, I love my S760 and I do not sell it for anything.
