«  PSP2: My Pro's! »

Published on 03/30/12 at 17:26
2 / O 3 pin XLR. Runs on battery or 9V/1A sector. 12 or 24/48V phantom power. 3 sensitivity settings -35, -55, -70. Low cut filters individual 80 or 120 Hertz. Individual gain switchable 6 or 12 dB.

UTILIZATION

A small preamp that allows me to have her on top with MD21U in my report. I connect a Roland R44 shoulder and go to the sound of madness. Without the PSP2 I found the sound of this mic some softness. I set the sensitivity to -70 anyway and the breath is ridiculously low. My Edirol obviously can not follow it at this level. I can still push the gain to 6 or 12 but when the breath comes fast. The gain setting is nevertheless useful for a lower sensitivity level. Example sensitivity -55 6 Db gain. This provides a good calibration with a bit of experience. There may be more convenient but it's effective. I also use it for recording acoustic shows in AB or ORTF and to make hunting sounds. He is able to reveal the best sounds the most Discrete friction ...

SOUND QUALITY

does not sound cool at all, not digital. This is not the sound device. It meets 200% what goes inside. Just a slightly velvety sound level. I love it.

OVERALL OPINION

With him is a whole world opened to me. There may be more convenient sometimes though. It lacks in this respect a more gradual adjustment of sensitivity, an independent phantom power for each channel that would re-enter a dynamic and static. A peak meter excavated more than its 2 LEDs lighting up when it saturates. Finally, a lock settings and the On / Off. In addition to its shortcomings, the sound that comes from there is pretty diabolical. Clean, precise, neutral but not cold. Enough to reveal the least sensitive microphones: M160, MD21, Do21 ... I certainly bought a bit expensive (800 €) compared to its age but the beast had very few used. 15 years ago, we found nine around 1500 €. The circuit is simple, I do not do it too. The prestige of a brand is well worth it. EAA became AETA if that tells you something: Mixy. In short, it's my lethal weapon. May God help me keep it much longer.
