I bought it for the quality of its preamps and A / D converters.
My purpose is twofold:
- Save my two synths: Roland RD-700 and Roland XP-50
- Record my guitars: Fender Stratocaster and Ibanez JS-900 model
- Fender Vibro Champ XD amp 5watt lamps + Shure SM57 microphone
- Output to Mixer Mackie 402-VLZ3
- Plays Yamaha HS-50
Config: intel i7 PC 2.8Ghz / 4GB ram / windows 7 64 bit
UTILIZATION
no problem with the drivers, very low latency (3ms)
I record a stereo or mono depending on my needs
I use sequencers: Reaper, Live, FLStudio
GETTING STARTED
since the cable connectors are XLR inputs you'll need two converters XLR / Jack (mono TS or TRS) if you want to record synths (it costs about 10 euros).
I push the volume of background synths and I set the gain in TotalMix (about 18dB for synths)
recording an electric guitar (simple microphones and / or double coil):
- Via the instrument port (high impedance): very good (18 to 30db of gain to be added)
- By a Shure SM57 microphone in front of the hp of my amp (5Watt lamps): even better (except my amp hums a bit, but it's not the fault of the sound card)
- I use guitar rig 4 in real time (little or no noticeable latency) to record on my songs
OVERALL OPINION
The sound quality is top nickel for me.
I used to despair of ever record my synths without breath knowing that I tried with the following gear with results not so good (and therefore unusable for anyone requiring a minimum quality of sound): sound Blaster (all models), POD XT, TonePort UX2, M-Audio Audiophile 24/96 (PCI), preamps mixers Behringer UB1622FX and Mackie 402-VLZ3.
I finally found the interface that allows me to be fully satisfied with my sound even if it's a bit expensive.
I will redeem this material without hesitation, I now realized that if we do not put the price to buy the good stuff you will sound rotten.
