Published on 07/07/11 at 07:04So I bought the MOX6 few days ago. It should be noted that I already have a Motif XS8 and Fantom G7.
The MOX6 does have the same sound engine as the Motif XS. And a synth 7Kg only is simply unheard of.
I will not give here the description of MOX or Motif, everybody knows, but the number of sounds and effects are very important. A clear nonetheless that the MOX6 includes a sound card and a MIDI connection via USB. A sound card at this price, it is once again incredible.
But this award and this weight has a consequence: a low-end finish in materials. Plastic, plastic, plastic, and especially a very poor keyboard on the Touch. When one has tasted the heavy touch of Motif XS8 keyboard or simply the Fantom G7, though not great, it really "toy".
Let us not forget also built a 16-track sequencer.
UTILIZATION
The main use for me, who already have a Motif XS, it's live and therefore the problem of transport. With a cover mode backpack, hop, MOX6 on the back. Admittedly, it's great to have such a rehearsal without even having to move his studio
Another positive point for a connoisseur of the Motif XS: access to sounds, effects, the various parameters in the split / layers of keyboard, etc.. is different. I say it's a good thing why? Simply because in a few days I discovered many new things I had not explored in this regard on my Motif. So I feel that the MOX6 helps me to discover a hidden part of the engine power of Reason.
Against by 2 points less for the screen and processing power of the synth. The black and white screen is exactly the same size as my old SY77 (for those who know what synth to more than 20 years). And when it registers sound or perf, wait 3-4 seconds with a progress bar! We feel that there is the economy behind it.
But it still takes away not much to this engine sounds only € 1000!
SOUNDS
I will not be very objective on this point since I'm a fan of the Motif XS. So obviously, the fan MOX6. For those who could not read what I wrote before, the same engine, same sounds, the same performance, the same effects.
So very good with me, pianist at the base, the best piano synths comparable 3: Motif XS / XF, Fantom G, and M3.
So realistic sounds, rich and powerful. For me the most versatile synth 3. But you can blame him to be the least typed.
OVERALL OPINION
3 days only with this synth including:
- Studio work: despite the small screen, great fun to explore sounds and synth effects with this. Good thinking though.
- Live: fabulous. Light, practical (split and layer directly accessible), small and powerful.
I am very happy with this purchase, I pushed for 1 month with my thinking to duplicate Motif XS. And in fact, I feel completely the opposite. They are further limited.
So to summarize:
- What I like least: the quality of key
- Quality / price ratio: unbeatable for me. I still can not believe you can have all the power of a Motif XS to € 1000!
Repeat this choice: YES!
