I play bass since 1969. In 1970 I bought a Precision L Series of 1964 used that suited me fine. It didn "has not stopped buying in 1972 a new Precision, which also was perfect. In the mid 90's, I stopped playing, too busy with other things. 3 weeks ago, so 38 years after my first purchase, I invested in this new American Standard Precision is new and I admit they were very strong in Fender. The instrument is at least as well as those of the time series The included (just the handle less flat and less wide), a large "precision" and a high accuracy, easy to play and with his typical Precision I have always known. The handle is a perfect straightness and improvements to the series said they left for last and pass the time better than their elders. Trendy Avalon U5 DI on my in my Protools TDM is a killer! It gave me the taste to get back to 57 years and here we go again like the first day. Thank Fender!
NB: This is only my opinion but I think there is currently one of abuse on the price of instruments Fender "vintage", especially on the CBS pre (before 1965). These are good tools as they crossed the decades with little sores, provided they have been selected and maintained, but are now reaching sometimes more than 5,000 and even 10,000 euros, this is a speculative madness for most collectors and musicians! I have owned and played for 40 long years a lot of these guitars and basses from the Precision 64, 72, Jazz Bass Series L 1965, the Stratocaster guitar, 1957, 1961, but my recent experience shows me that today is Fender is assured. Before breaking the bank to throw you on the first bass guitar or vintage of the web because it's trendy! Take the time to try the new Fender and attention, even if the manufacturing chain is better managed today, there is no 2 instruments such as at the time ... So do not rush, wait until you fall instantly in love, go anywhere, try and try again, go look for one that you expecting from birth !!!... Good music ....
UTILIZATION
The handle is a perfect straightness and improvements to the series said they left for last and pass the time better than their elders. The question is how the instrument will evolve as a bass wood, it moves, it lives but by my experience, I trust, then we must not forget that all string players must have a good luthier in his shelves, ready to intervene if necessary! The weight is correct, the same order as the pre CBS series. Access to acute has not changed. So here there are plenty who regret the 20 boxes only proposed by Fender ... Well that's enough for me because I remember in passing that it's low!! .... we play and nothing else ... Jaco Pastorius did well with it! ... To get a good sound with P. Bass is easy: Just like music and bass, his instrument to work as much as we can, to have at least 5% talent and P. Bass will do the rest ...
SOUNDS
The Fender Precision, it has a sound! but what a sound! Is the reference sound of the bass, unlike her little sister, Jazz Bass, more versatile, but 9 years his junior. Yet, if we start to look more closely, be it violin or the electrical side, there is plenty to smile about, as the components are basic and limited! But that's the magic Fender: I did like everyone else, such as changing the microphone, easel, etc.. and it gives good results but the magic goes: For me, it "is more of a P Bass, it's something else. So, as it is original, we like it or not, but if we love must not touch. Even if today there are plenty of other instruments outstanding as the Musicman, Warwick, the Alembic, the Status, etc. .... not to mention the bass luthier like Nogueira example , single instruments more beautiful than each other with wooden fittings and nothing to do with Fender, most stars have a low P Bass or Jazz Bass lying around in the corner and that means everything!
OVERALL OPINION
I use the Fender New American Standard for 3 weeks but it's been 41 years that I have a Fender. I have not tried other models because this is the one I needed. On the other hand, I also have a Jazz Bazz Japan reissue 62 of 94, which unfortunately has very little influence but actually sends, so I'm ready ....
With experience, I would do this election?? Frankly, with everything just said I had no choice ...
