«  Compact mixer! »

Published on 11/16/12 at 23:16
I was looking for a mobile interface for connecting multiple sources, and Motu offers a large number of I / O in a compact housing. In fact, the audio interface function is secondary to the Ultralite: it is a mixer with built-in effects. Ie a computer can use it as sound card, but it is not essential, alone it acts mixer.
It is possible to configure a different mix for each pair of stereo audio output, this is the equivalent of 8 MIXERS. The integrated effects of compression and reverb apply without latency.
It can mix all the entries in a small group of music (a guitarist, an electric piano, one or two microphones, etc.) without using a computer. IT HAPPENS FOR COMPUTER as RME.

UTILIZATION

The CueMix allows a simple graphical access to all functions of the Ultralite. Note that absolutely everything is customizable interface with integrated Ultralite, without needing the computer, even the 8 mixers integrated. The use of the computer used to store different configurations mixes if you want to define multiple sets of 8 tables mixes: example this morning I mix a small quartet, this afternoon my home studio, the band tonight .. 3 .. The mixer configurations are stored in the Motu, and the menu I go from one to the other. SUPER powerful!

GETTING STARTED

No worries MacOSX. Those who are not accustomed to dealing with issues of monitoring, or multiple I / O will find the same difficulties as other similar products.
On other systems I do not know.

OVERALL OPINION

I have 5 years and I started to saturate the I / O So I plan to buy a second for my connecting additional devices. I also considered the equivalent product from RME, but I'm happy, no reason to change
What I like most is its autonomy vis-à-vis the computer: just Motu one or more sound sources, and it is part of my Genelecs or a multitrack recorder!
