Thread Do the 2i2 and 2i4 use the same drivers?

A couple years ago, I gave my 1st-gen 2i4 to me daughter to get her started in recording. For my little laptop-based "studio", I replaced it with a 1st-gen 2i2. Now that our particular needs are better defined, I think I'd be better off with the 2i4, since my work is more audio-based. My daughter does all in-the-box stuff with virtual instruments, and the only "recording" she does is via USB MIDI from her Yamaha digital piano.

Is swapping Scarletts as simple as just moving the boxes, or do we need to load different drivers on our respective laptops? If the swap is permanent, should we delete the old drivers before installing the new?
