If I say that as Planet CCRMA, distribution Agnula DeMuDi benefits from servers / mirrors of IRCAM, this simply? You need more details, despite such an argument? Well, then write.

http://freesoftware.ircam.fr/index.php3 I let you see for yourself

It's Free: therefore everyone is free to use or not use these tools ...
------------

- Installation without any pb, provided:

1 have carefully conducted tests using one (or several) distribution (s) Linux Live CD (without install) to make sure everything goes well. For the first tests I recommend Knoppix, Kael, Dynebolic, Agnula Live CD, Mandriva Move, APODIO.
2 To allocate a Linux DD. The most reasonable for a DD win, a DD for Linux. The dual boot Linux is not recognizing PBS Windows (not the other way ...)
3 ° using a sound card listed in http://www.alsa-project.org/ (the most classic cases: Terratec / RME / MAUDIO)

- From there, everything is set up on its own.

SUITABILITY/PERFORMANCE

- Celeron 2.2 GHZ
- HDA 120 GB under Win2K (not for long)
- 80 GB in HDB Agnula DeMuDi 1.3.0 rc1
- Audio Card M 24-96 works perfectly with this system
- Works seamlessly eg log 16 tracks in Ardour = 15% CPU load. Perfect stability, I launched a recorded "test" with an 8-track construed 1010: a Record of 1:30 in 8 tracks in Ardour = CPU load between 08.1 and 09% ...

OVERALL OPINION

- I started using Linux three years ago but only for office
- I discovered the Linux computer music there a year and a half ago, without forcing. I can not compile, I know almost no control on Linux is to say ...
- Jack Ardour + Rosegarden + Hydrogen + = 20% CPU load, all of which are interconnected (network design prevailing in Linux, even for audio)
- Gradual introduction of a home studio and (project) studio associative Linux
--------
Appraisal:

1 ° advantages:

- Close-knit community
- Support from the Linux community computer music
- Evolution very fast development of new projects (eg LMMS) Ardour is gradually in version 2!
- Management RAM / CPU exemplary value for money
- Possibility of recovery sessions in other sequencers (last week I exported the Ardour tracks, open in Samplitude 6 = no points. Certainly the task is tedious, but the result is there.)
- Low Cost (Ex Studio To Go) or 0 (Agnula DeMuDi)
- Integration of advanced technology: control surfaces, VST and VSTi ...
- Instead of paying ever, we learn ... in mind: "Give a man a fish, he eats a day, teach him to fish and he eats for life."
-----------------------
2 disadvantages:

- Requires more effort than installing an app with Setup (and again ...)
- Requires more patience to get to set up a home studio
