Best value:
Excellent
A beautiful vintage pedal Electro-Harmonix comprising two "sides": a retro overdrive lamp type and the possible distortion. No more no less ... Oh yes: A True Bypass which is very nice considering the price!
This is a pedal "old-school, so no question of digital publishing.
It is possible to enable both sides simultaneously ... while taking some precautions ...
It is composed of germanium transistor, the material used in old radios for years 60-70. Imagine the sound trend, it is not in the modern-metal ...
For price, fans of the Kinks, Who and others will be more than delighted!
To be picky it could demand a Boost ... Oh and then nan, she is so awesome!
UTILIZATION
A simple configure knob despite some who are not very clear ... Including Bias and Volts knobs that are not intuitive, we have the following basic tips that do not need to be explained: Gain, Tone, Volume. When you're a guitarist, the latter three are almost part of us! ^ ^
Let's put everything flat.
The party has 4 knob Overdrive: Gain, Bias, Tone Volume. Part Disto comprises the knobs: Gain, Bias, Volts and Volume.
In 2 cases, the volume pot to serve Bias ... I did not understand ... It is a tone that manages another side of the sonic texture, it's actually quite difficult to explain, it must be heard to understand. When the knob volt ... is the most original of the pedal: It puts at the bottom, there is a normal sound, if you put it below the two-thirds capacity, we get a sound much less powerful and we need to increase the volume. However, it was a totally new sound: the users of the OD Overdrive from the same brand will feel at home. For others here:
The sound is the same as an old electrical equipment pushed to the limit on the pointer to drop. It's as cool as typed!
The English manual is clear enough. In French it is surely far more clear ^ ^
Finally, it is possible to activate the two parts simultaneously as said above ...
SOUND QUALITY
Both effects are VERY different from each other ...
The overdrive is very distinctive vintage overdrive with sustain very short but incredibly powerful when everything is at bottom. In my case, I did not go into detail but can range from subtle jazzy overdrive until aggressive crunch that really does the gut. The only drawback if you want one is that the sustain is a little short ... BUT WHAT FISHING!
The distortion is pretty special. Quite messy but powerful, too (Germanium requires). The knob Volt (see above for the feature) is present only on this side of the pedal. We would have preferred to go to the overdrive side of the rear end! The classical distortion settings do not make a Chinese puzzle. We quickly found a sound that we agree!
The main drawback of this part is the breath nonexistent with overdrive, distortion too accentuated ... too bad = /
Finally, the use of both is more complicated: it will take time to find the right sound without feedback ^ ^ ... But once its found, you keep them with you more! =)
I use this pedal with a Custom77 China Girl Raw Raw Power (SG type guitar with two P90 pickups imitation) and a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. So a sound leaning towards the treble and quite aggressive.
I'm totally addicted to the overdrive, a little lukewarm to the distortion and the two together ...
OVERALL OPINION
I use it at home and in rehearsal, and I'm not disappointed! Low is the same past and the overdrive gives real character to sounds (like bass guitar).
The simple logo Electr-Harmonix reassured me, convinced me to try it!
What I prefer is the overdrive. The distortion is worse. It's very very sad: (
The value for money is excellent considering the components and controls.
I would do this chosen with the experiment without hesitation!
