Since Christmas 2007.
Get started really easy. good ergonomics, simple menus, in short, no need to read the instructions (very well done for that matter).
I had a Sony MD before, I used it with a micro bayerdynamic. The sound was good but quite delicate sound recording and single!
the quality is the sruprenante, both in the record that the spatial (stero as 4CH). I use it mainly to catch in its collection's outdoor (saw all the accessories). But also to the "photos" sound with friends. The voices are excellent.
on the other hand to record instruments, it is necessary to test qques (compressor, limiter, AGC, etc.). To find the best rendering.
Some complain they can not change the recording level during recording (bah me, I could), but it seems very unnecessary (in my use anyway), and it is always possible normalize the audio file after (very very slow !!!).
File manipulation (normalization, conversion to MP3, etc) is slow (very!). Better to go through the pc.
About the appearance of plastic, yes, but it does not bother me. Sony MD is plastic, but the painting is more beautiful, it look less cheap perhaps. I bought a small pouch 10 which allows me to put it away with all accessories and on being protected. Otherwise, you just have to be careful. that's all.
Initially, I regretted that there is no XLR as the H4, but in the end, the microphones are of very good quality and external microphones, it's pretty painful carry, connect, adjust, especially for taking in its collection's outdoor spontanne. (I hear a sound I like, I leave the H2 out of my pocket, I press rec, I adjust the gain and the input level, press REC, and presto, it's in the box )
