The URS Classic Console Strip plug-in was as easy to install as any other plug-in that I have installed as I had it up and running within only a matter of minutes. The interface of the software is really easy to follow as it is clearly labeled and split into separate equalization and compression sections. The EQ is a three band EQ that has three fixed frequencies to choose from for the high end and the low end while the mid section has knobs for controlling both the level and the exact frequency. It also has a knob for output level and a switch to choose between sharp and wide Qs for the mid section. The compression section has parameters for threshold, ratio, and gain makeup as well as a switch for either pre or post. The plug-in also has meters for both input and output levels. I don't have a manual for the URS Classic Console Strip plug-in, but it is easy enough to use on its own that you don't really need it anyway.
SUITABILITY/PERFORMANCE
I am currently running the URS Classic Console Strip plug-in on a Mac Book Pro that has a 2.2 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and 4 GB of RAM. I run the plug-in in Pro Tools LE 7.4 that runs off of a Digi 002R audio interface. I've never had any problems at all running this plug-in within this configuration and for the record I have also used it on a Pro Tools HD system without issues as well. I am able to run four or five of these at a time and generally try to keep it to that as this plug-in does take up some processing power. However, how well it will run really depends more on the system you are running it with rather than the plug-in itself.
OVERALL OPINION
I've been using the URS Classic Console Strip plug-in for a little bit less than a year and I've been very impressed with the overall sound quality of the plug-in in this time. I like both the compression and EQ sections as I find both of them to be more than effective and both to be really clean. I've used it on all sorts of instruments as I've found it useful all across the board. I'm a huge fan of all of the plug-ins that URS makes because of their great tone and their extremely reasonable prices. This plug-in is a lot cheaper than you would think which is why I would strongly recommend checking it out regardless of if you are a professional or home studio owner.
