Power of 15 watts in class AB, 16 or 8 ohms.
Amplification: 2 EL84 lamps.
Preamp: 12AX7 3.
Rectifier transistor.
HP Wharfedale (equivalent to celestion G12H ... maybe a tad below)
Dimensions (cm): L 60.5, H 44, P 26.2 (this is one thing, not a little thing like the fender BJ)
Weight: 22 kg
Comes with a footswitch allowing Inrush vibrato and reverb. And yes, there is only one channel!
A jack for the guitar, one for HP ... and that's it.
It is a minimalist amp: there is just enough ... and that's all it takes!
My only regret from this point of view: everything is plastic, logo, reinforced corners, handle ... a little cheap ... but this amp is cheap, and it is the least of her assets!
UTILIZATION
Reading the manual is useful for those who do not know how a tube amp: there are things that needs to be careful, heat a little like leaving the lights on stand by before playing, or vice versa to let cool before moving the beast, otherwise premature aging of the lamps.
The rest is an amp that I like: Intuitive.
You turn the knobs, we try to understand what it does, we explore, there are sounds that go well, we play, adjusting his game is refined setting of the amp, it further refines his game, its settings on the guitar ...
Thus the two tone controls (bass and treble), not only filters acting on a specific range of frequencies, but a real effect, they overlap and are not linear, the carves its use significantly, many more than a classic tone.
So, in terms of use, it is a anti-amp modeling.
That is, it pushes us to really do a thorough job, which affects both our game settings and techniques. Modeling, providing prefabricated sounds (although you can also do infinite settings) leads us to more easily: the amp gives a Soldano sound directly ... Why look further?? An AC15, like any other amp roots of this type is an amp that, because of its simplicity grows to be demanding with himself and with his fingers.
One last detail: the power. If you live in a place where noise is a problem ... Well think about watching the side of the amp 5 watts, or plan to complete your equipment a powerbrake. 15-watt lamps, it still deposit, as it must make at least one third of its power for good sound ...
SOUNDS
Before going further, a small oratory precautions: all this is very subjective ... fortunately.
I said then that all I will then share in my ear is based on what I play and where I am on my way to guitar.
I play a little bit of everything in the sphere of Jazz / Blues / Fonk / Reggea / Rock and all mixtures can be done with it, and adding a few forays into electro (lounge, dub, electro-pop, hard tech).
I do this with a Variax, which I use "tool-practical-to-be-all-in-the-hand-with-a-son-standardized-and-ready-to-eat-
for-the-home-studio (phew).
And I especially a semi-hollow Ibanez (AS 103), which is my guitar with me half-boxes, for Life
I was playing with different amp, and at home, I had a Vox AD30 customized (an external speaker with a Celestion G12H, 10 "of the AD30 is really too low). It was very good for homestudio ... but for music ... I missed the depth and dynamics of all lamps.
Well now I have and I am completely satisfied.
So here's my subjective view of the beast:
Comprehensive approach:

It's very good. Certainly there is a single grain, but it is quite versatile, look the other way: it will sound very warm and dynamic cleans to very aggressive overdrive sounds (can be done quite earache).
From my point of view, this amp is "natural". That is a partner in a guitar, it sounds coming out of this guitar, slightly worked in clean (hot, cold, sweet, aggressive overdrive ...), with the boost.
I connect two pedals mainly a wah wah and Mercer box, glue it, no incompatibility of temperament
In short, this is an amp that is designed to enhance your guitar and play, no more, no less.

Comprehensive approach:

First approach: the game between the master (amplification) and volume (preamp). It works in a conventional manner, and that by mounting the volume you get a good crunch, albeit typically "British" but rather hot, Dumoine with my guitars, which are themselves rather sweet. Limit in overdrive the preamp, one is in a great blues record, very hot (this is what I prefer). The overdrive of the amplifier section and beautiful too, but it sounds hard!
The dynamic is very good performance as well (I'm curious to know how get from HP ...). In short, it makes noise, and at home, it is difficult to push the amp into a corner without causing a war with other people! This also pushes to play with his fingers all the subtleties of touch pass ... and all errors completely agree
Second approach: Boost (tone + volume). It is incredibly versatile, it alone justifies the excellent value for money of this amp, leaving the competitors far behind that point of view. In short, it is with him that we will find a wide range of sounds between warmth and aggressiveness in sonic. The settings are acting ... it is therefore necessary to take accurate notes to find the latest one.
The surprise on the cake: the tremolo. At first, I always found this interesting, entertaining, but quickly tired, a little too much actually. Vox but it pushes me to explore this field: the tremolo is great, but now no exaggeration, the settings are very progressive. Combined with the warmth of the sound is a joy. I sometimes take for Marc Ribot (excellent avant-jazz guitarist to know absolutely)!
The reverb: then that, I have a problem with the reverb. Of course, it's a real, with real springs ... but I've never tried one that I like reverb. So she turned down to give a little space, or cut (to play jazz, there's no need).

OVERALL OPINION
I use this amp for a few weeks, I do not think have been around ... in fact, we never turn a good amp: things are going with our game, found on the amp is changing our game itself ... is infinite!
Before I went, I tried (almost) all tube amps that exist in this price range (500 to € 1000), with the aim of having a palette oriented Blues-Rock. It ended in battle Fender / Vox. Peavey has taken a while, Laney 10 minutes ... Rivera and Marshall (JTM only), it was tempting, but above the maximum price.
Fender or Vox, then? Honestly, it is worth ... It is probably also the case for Peavey and Laney ... it is only a matter of sensitivity. Vox wins for me the two confrontations: against Hot Rod AC30, AC15 against Blues Jr. Warmer, more roots. But it's very subjective.
