Toontrack dfh SUPERIOR

ToonTrack DFH Superior can run on Windows computers as well as Mac computers. They did discontinue it not long after it came out for some reason but there are other versions of ToonTrack available. I was using DFH Superior back in 2007 before it was discontinued, but I am sure it still can be purchased or downloaded online from somewhere. It came with over 30 gigabytes of data and had some very good snares, kicks , toms, and cymbals all feeling very real and humanized to give a real drummer experience and sound all coming from a VST.

SUITABILITY/PERFORMANCE

Installing DFH Superior did take a little more time, at the time I was using a Windows XP laptop and it took a few minutes to load all of the sounds because there are a lot of time. The interface of this program was awful to me though because it had so many options and seemed to be so crowded and overdone. But using this program you will get the best “real” drummer sound that you can ever possibly want out of the digital world. The price was only around 200 dollars at the time and that was a very good priced for a software like this back in 2007.

OVERALL OPINION

With the interface being as complicated and in depth as it is, it was a huge turn off for me and made me not want to work with this program much because there are so many easier software’s that are similar. If the interface was cleaner I would have felt a lot different about this plug in.
This program was very CPU heavy and took up a lot of computer space. Just loading in all of the sounds took some time. ToonTrack has come out with other versions of it that are more user friendly and easier to work with. But unfortunately they have changed some of the kits, if they kept some of the same kits and feel that they had with the DFH Superior, the newer versions would be so much better.

Good for the installation no problem if n is hard (1 hour and 1 / 2) so everything is for the better.

2x 80 GB hard disk
While the DGAT hello, with my config I can not load some drum kit, the kit SONOR example does little prs 1.2 go!! and as everything must be loaded into RAM the computer crashes and yet it is 1.2 go without all the open mics but I must say that there really is something to do. so if you want to be with BFD is to say to the c rel of time with other vsti forget or else you will need to invest in a G5 and 3GB of RAM. There is a parade all these problems must be made from soft bounces and then to apply all the effects in a Another project is a can c arduous but the rewards are worth the effort.

OVERALL OPINION

So if you read above you have to tell you that this software is not good n well c is actually the exact opposite!! if you are patient and ordered the software c is the bomb! j also have BFD and for me There is no picture, despite all the default soft li al architecture (eg a snare drum has the direct sound above and below the patch, then there is an atmosphere of micro and especially snare repisse in all other microphones and icing on the cake was ACCS all volumes for repisse I m c is said that if you want to lower the level of the snare drum in the microphone charley tom or a possible, so it is more realistic). The installation is really endless :-(
j've put a lot of time to install the equivalent of 9 DVDrom (in fact there are 5 including 4 DVD double layers).
No inconsistency in use, it is configured fingers in the nose lol. I found the manual not very well illustrated (the authors go fast enough on some points which I think may pose problems to be the most inexperienced users). And if we add to that a record entirely in English in the j see that starting to have cold sweats lol.
The thing that I most ennervé c is to have to make drag and drop to copy a directory that was the same for a DVD to another. No they have not been very inspired on this one the grrrrrrrrrr.

SUITABILITY/PERFORMANCE

My config:

Athlon XP 2200 1 gig of ram Motherboard Asus A7N8X deluxe.
Serial ATA drive reserved for the audio mounted RAID 0.
This config allows me to work properly (even if I would like to load the mule a bit more). However, the pre-requisites seem a little optimistic ATHLON 500 and 512M of ram.
It is better to count the double ram and have a recent processor (DFH even if n is not hungry he will have to turn to other resources that bulk of the CPU).

But most important:

If you have a small hard drive ..... go your way. The installation is gargantuan space because it takes about 36 gigabytes !!!!!!!!
For BFD (rival) c is less demanding on disk space but it kneels a G4 Dual pro d entry-level attention to the choice then you will do!!

The software is stable and very well interfaced with CUBASE (all tracks are separate and controllable at will in the sequencer).

OVERALL OPINION

I used the for about 4 days and I m still surprises capabilities of the software!!
What I like most is that c modularity. Here we are not confined to a battery type because it can choose its own elements and make the craziest custom DRUM that is !!!!! And if we add to that the choice of microphones, choice of strikes left hand right hand, the possibility of removing the patch, etc ..., it's a very explosive cocktail. this plugin is added 2 more plug: cocktail and percussionist.
You'll understand the cocktail is destined to set a drum type more light jazz club percussionist and percussion.
J have had the opportunity to test BFD is also an excellent product, but two reasons are oriented DFH m:

BFD is too greedy (if you want to work in tranquility with several plugs) you need a supercomputer !!!!!! lol What you require according to the results obtained with the software to change the bike.

Reason 2: having seen a new demo at Apple Expo j I really had the impression that you had to be first computer to use such software as powerful as it is. And as I prefer making music to tease the field mouse that you will understand ...... finally my final choice.

Conclusion:

DFH may be a little less "sharp" in the various settings that BFD offers a tool but still very powerful in contrast to BFD will be used by the machines while allowing less current to run more or sequences smaller without constantly staring at the gauge performance !!!!!

So a great product really bluffing

The installation is done without PBME, except that in the manual to understand it MUST overwrite files when the install asks: this is the normal process (will understand ...).
The config is realtivement easy: you have to assign a tone (KD, SD, ...) to each of its key MIDI keyboard, as some sounds are default under the line "float" (the default programming covers a keyboard 88 keys, so you can access some sounds on a keyboard + short). But this operation is done quickly and easily and allows you to configure the drum map as desired, under his fingers and depending on the extent of his keyboard. If you have a keyboard 88 keys, you can keep the original mapping which is not bad.
Added: since version 1.3.0, a handy MIDI learn function allows you to quickly assign a tone to a key. We can easily use a keyboard + 61 keys.
The English manual is clear and sufficient, although a little cheap (the fôtes) and hit the install and got a bit damp at the time.

SUITABILITY/PERFORMANCE

My config: P4 2.8, 120 GB 8MB DD80, 512 Ram, Cubase SX.
I'm pretty questioned whether the software was not oversize for my config, and in fact it goes. Obviously, do not activate at first repisse the microphones because there is the cata provided with 512 MB ram. However, it is not awkward to program in real time. The app provides a preset velocity in order to load only certain layers of each stamp to relieve the CPU. Finally, the bounce will restore all the microphones and therefore the wealth-making sounds.
So I can confirm that the battery can be programmed without pb with this type of config. Now, mind you, if you add over 5 or 6 + VSTi plug as many effects, it might start crachotter. In this case, + to go away, you have to bounce (= audio rendering) of your drum track (and / or others). Once this is done, more power pb.
In general, I still think that 1 GB of RAM is recommended for use of this tool really comfortable, which in some way, be earned.
Added: Today I have 2 GB of RAM, and there it runs trouble-free

OVERALL OPINION

I use it for 15 days. Added: 5 mois.Ce since I really appreciate is the sound. It is for this reason that I preferred the soft, the sound is really beautiful: sweet potato, the subtlety, the definition of quality (the cymbals, beautiful, are not cut, the drum is of presence bluffing, microphones repeat all this rich sound in all directions (watch behind the mix ...). Some patches, however, disappoint me a little (or as they like, either because they are not arranged in the different tools proposed: this snare is not available in "broom" for example ...).
The configuration interface of drumsmaps is easy to use even if some choices are downright questionable ergonomics (the fact of not being able to listen to a stamp in his selection, he must go to the next screen, listen back, which is painful ... Added: v1.3.0 fixes this the default) and also there's bad play, the fact that the instruments are not available are still available for selection ... then they will not be charged. So there are improvements to think quickly on this tool also remarkable.

In summary, I would do this choice, but with the proviso that last remark.

Finally, the sound is really excellent, and who knows about how to handle a drum programming is really hénaurme. But do not look here for anything other than the skin, drums, copper. Other soft percussion are varied, but still relatively limited.
