Topic emu 1212 s/pdif not working
Im trying to record some stuff, so i have a roland vs-840 with a mic atached and im using a radioshack PCM digital audio cable from the rolands digital coax out to the s/pdif in on the card. problem is patchmix is not getting a reading so no sound coming in. this used to work with a red and white mono cable then just suddenly stopped working so i figured it was the cable and replaced it, but still... Please any help would be appreciated

yeah, i think i probably will get a fiber optic cable because the setting and hardware seem to be the same as when it used to work, so that seems like it might be... anyways what is the sync card?

Didn't your 1212m come with a sync card aside from the 0202 I/O card? Though the Emu should work without the sync card installed, I remember having problems with s/pdif when I took out the sync card. Shouldn't be the case but that's what happened. I just keep the sync card connected to prevent any future problems; doesn't take up a slot anyway.

whats it look like and where would it be? because i bought this computer as a used custom built, so i dont know exactly what it should have

It's the one on the lower left. It has 2 BNC connectors and 2 1/4" sockets for SMPTE timecode.

oh yeah i have that one, the only one that didnt come included was the big external one. also i just got some turntables today and tried to connect them from 2 mono (red, and white) coaxials to one of the 1/4" and also got nothing in patchmix. might have something to do with it...

The one on top is the Audiodock that comes with the 1820m. The 1212m has 3 cards, the 1010 pci card and the 0202 card which contains the analog I/O, as well as the aforementioned sync card. You should have 3 cards installed all-in-all with only the larger 1010 card occupying a pci slot; the other 2 smaller cards can occupy any open backplane slot. The 1/4" sockets on the sync card were meant for audio SMPTE timecode while the BNC connectors are for word clock.

I just remembered. Do you have the s/pdif connected in this screen?

Click on either the MIX or MON box in the row that says PCI Card S/PDIF.

its on this:

What is Strip 11? You inserted a Send to Physical Out (S/PDIF) yet you are also feeding the main output signal from the MON bus.
