MGR/Fire In The HOLE! MGR/Fire In The HOLE!

Before I started playing bass, I was looking at a couple of basses which I heard were supposed to be good starter basses . . . the ESP B-104 or the one I got, the IBANEZ GSR200. I decided against the B-104 as I heard it had a few manufacturing faults, and bought my GSR 200 at a Musicstop store for $350 Canadian.

The GSR 200 feels just right when I play it. It isn't too heavy either, real easy to sit with or stand with and jam away. The Jewel Blue finish of my bass shines and sparkles. I thought the jewel blue finish looked nicer than the red or black finishes, but that might be just me. The neck is also easy to navigate, and feels real smooth when playing.

The electronics in my GSR200 bass are kinda crap . . . I never had them changed, but I should/should have. The crap factory strings that come with the GSR200 should be changed RIGHT AWAY . . . I didn't like them at all.

The quality of construction is excellent . . . every bolt is tight, the bass is held together real good. I never dropped her before, but she has been bumped a tad, and it's still in excellent shape. It's built very solidly, but on my GSR200, the plate that covers the electronics on the back is not on right, somehow or another. It sticks up on one side, even when the screws are tightened. That might just be my bass though . . . maybe no other ones are like it.

This bass is an excellent beginner bass. I learned to play on it until I got a new bass. Besides the crap strings and electronics (which can be replaced), she's perfect for those learning to play and she might even do for an intermediate player's bass. I wish I had gotten the 5-string model, the GSR205, but there's not much wrong with the GSR200!
