Value For Money :
Excellent
- What characteristics have motivated your choice?
It has 8 inputs and 10 outputs (including 2 headphones), it is rackable, ADAT I / O.
- For what purpose?
I use it in a home studio to record my band, those of my friends or any other musical project.
- What is your config (Motherboard / CPU / RAM / Disk, ...)?
I have an old PC running XP SP3 with a dual-core 2.4 and 4 GB of RAM, it works niquel
- Which instruments or systems (console, preamp, DtDs ...) the use and how you connect? ...
I use it to record vocals, guitars and dub by micro DI, and basses in the same way.
UTILIZATION
- The drivers are stable?
No problem with for 4 months
- Are they updated frequently?
No idea, I installed the latest ones since it was installed and since I have not looked, but I have no bug or problem for now.
- What software do you use most often?
I use it with Cubase
- What you get lag?
I had problems with latency at the beginning but it was not the Saffire Pro 40, now I would say that if I get around 5-7ms seems to me there, a little more on large project.
- How many tracks do you manage to record / play simultaneously?
My biggest projects are 20-25 audio tracks / MIDI VST and I have no worries latency or cracks etc. ...
on the other hand I have on some project or I only use the instruments as VSTs (virtual instruments 15 tracks is a big maximum).
GETTING STARTED
- The installation is done it without problem?
I installed the drivers and control software and then plugged in and hop it works.
- Have you encountered any incompatibilities?
No.
- The general configuration is easy?
Could not be more simple, I had to flip through the manual once diagonally and it's good!
- The manual is clear and sufficient?
From what little I read it sounded.
OVERALL OPINION
- How long you use it?
I use it for 4 months.
- What is so special that you love the most, least?
Most: his preamps change me life compared to those of my M-Audio Fast Ultra, less breath and more neutral, the two headphone outputs, 2 inputs Line / Inst Combo with Jack / XLR front panel, the input / ADAT.
The least: For the general consensus that the firewire (but it does not bother me in had my PC), otherwise I do not see too much downside.
- Did you tried many other models before buying it?
I have traveled quite a bit of paper on the interface type but have tried any others, I had an M-Audio Fast Track Ultra, which dropped me but I was not satisfied anyway.
- How would you rate the quality / price?
I find the quality / price excellent in quality and number of options available!
- With experience, you do again this choice?
Yes, this is a good interface for its price, at the same price the RME Babyface does not offer as many features included for example (although the quality is higher), I would do probably the choice.
